Is the Saatva Latex Hybrid a Good Mattress for You?
To start, we put each of our mattresses through something called a “Rest Test,” where we lie down on the bed for an uninterrupted 15-minute power nap. This gives us a big-picture assessment of how it performs before we get into some of our more specific tests. Here’s how my colleague Amelia felt napping on the Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress:
“The Saatva Latex Hybrid has a really bouncy, uplifted feel. I didn’t sink into the bed much, but I still felt some cushioning and pressure relief from the latex foam.”

Who I Recommend the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress for
- This bed is a nice option for back sleepers who like a firmer feel. It supports your hips and spine really well, which can help prevent back pain.
- I’d also recommend this Saatva mattress for strict stomach sleepers. A firm mattress that allows you to sleep “on top” of the bed rather than sinking “into it” can help keep your hips in line with your shoulders.
- Combination back and stomach sleepers might also like this mattress. The latex materials offer plenty of bounce and a quick response to pressure, which means more mobility, so most people won’t have trouble rolling over to switch positions during the night.
- Heavier folks should definitely consider this mattress, too. The latex offers excellent support and durability, meaning the mattress shouldn’t wear out too quickly.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress for
- I wouldn’t recommend this mattress to strict side sleepers, it’s just a touch too firm for them. Typically, side sleepers would do better with a more plush bed that helps cushion sensitive joints.
- This latex mattress provides some great bounce, but it doesn’t absorb a ton of movement. That means this won’t be the best option for couples, especially if one partner is a restless sleeper.
How Firm is the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress?
How firm or soft a mattress feels varies a lot from person to person, and is influenced by things like body weight and sleeping position. In order to provide a well-rounded idea of how firm the Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress is, I enlisted some coworkers to help me test its firmness and come up with a mutually agreed rating.
I would describe the Saatva Latex Hybrid as a firm mattress. Ultimately, I gave it a 7.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, with 1 being incredibly soft and 10 being the firmest mattress ever. A standard industry rating for medium firm would be in the 6 to 6.5 out of 10 range, and this mattress is definitely firmer than that.

While firmness is one of the top things to consider when searching for a new mattress, there is more to think about when shopping for a new mattress. To give you an in-depth idea of mattress performance, I run some specialized tests on every bed I review. For the Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress, I measured how it performed in different sleeping positions, how it relieved pain and pressure, and how it might feel for couples sharing a bed.
Testing the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress in Different Sleeping Positions
Different sleeping positions and body types require different amounts of support. Generally, light sleepers don’t require as much support as heavy sleepers. Read on below to see how this firm mattress performs for sleepers of different weights.
Is the Saatva Latex Hybrid a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – This mattress may feel too firm to light back sleepers, unless they prefer a sturdier bed.
- Light Side Sleepers – I think that light side sleepers would benefit more from a softer mattress with more sinkage and contouring to their body. I would steer them towards the Luxury Plush side of the Zenhaven mattress, a flippable bed by Saatva.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – The firm build of this mattress will provide the support at the hips that light stomach sleepers need to prevent alignment issues in their spines. Their light weight, in combination with this mattress’s coil support system will give these sleepers a pleasant “floating” sensation on top of the bed.
Is the Saatva Latex Hybrid a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130 to 250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – I think average weight back sleepers will really enjoy this mattress. This bed allows these sleepers to lay on top of the bed rather than sink in it. This will keep their spines in alignment, which helps to reduce back pain.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – In my opinion, the bed is just a touch too firm for most side sleepers. A firm model like this one can put pressure on your shoulders and hips, which could cause aches and pains down the line. These sleepers would probably be better served by a softer mattress.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – This bed is ideal for stomach sleepers. It has a firm feel that should keep these sleepers’ hips in line with their shoulders, which promotes a neutral spinal alignment. In fact, the Saatva Latex Hybrid was ranked Best for Stomach Sleepers in our best latex mattresses roundup.
Is the Saatva Latex Hybrid a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – I think this mattress could suit sleepers who have a heavier body weight (250 pounds +). The latex and coils offer great support for heavier folks. Heavier sleepers may also want to check out the Saatva HD, which was built specifically with their needs in mind.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – This mattress is quite firm, which will allow heavy side sleepers to avoid the sinkage they may experience with softer mattresses. However, side sleepers might find this mattress a touch too firm for their needs — it really depends on your individual firmness preference.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – Heavy stomach sleepers should do quite well on this bed, as the latex is durable and supportive enough for sleepers up to 300 pounds. However, if you’re out of this weight range, I’d recommend taking a look at the Latex Hybrid’s sibling, the Saatva HD, which offers the same benefits and is made just for you.
Saatva Latex Hybrid Pain Relief Performance
Next, I’ll run through an important test: how the Saatva Latex Hybrid relieves pressure and pain. In this test I will assess the bed’s capability to alleviate tension at sensitive, common pain areas — the hips, shoulders, and back.
The pressure map is a mat that I can roll out on top of a bed and lie down on, and it measures the amount of pressure placed on my body. This is important because too much pressure can be painful on your shoulders, hips, and other sensitive spots — which, of course, we want to avoid!
Lying down on the mat creates a color-coded pressure map, ranging from blue and green (low pressure) to yellow and red (high pressure). Let’s dive into the results.
Back Pain — When I was lying on my back, I felt more “on top” of the mattress than “in” it, and the latex layers provided a comfortable, supportive feel. You can see that the pressure map is blue across the board, so this is a solid option for back sleepers who like a firm mattress.
Shoulder Pain — As this is a firmer mattress, I don’t think strict side sleepers with shoulder pain will get a plush, contouring feel that would provide enough sinkage for relief. The bed could be okay for combination back and side sleepers needing relief at the shoulders while maintaining support.
Hip Pain — I think this mattress has a great support level for stomach sleepers, keeping the hips and shoulders in alignment while providing pressure relief. However, side sleepers with hip pain will almost certainly want something with more give.
Saatva Latex Hybrid Performance for Couples
When sharing the bed with a partner, you’ll want to keep a few more things in mind while shopping for a new mattress. Features you’ll want to consider include motion transfer, performance during sex, cooling, and edge support.
Motion Transfer
I also tested the bed for motion transfer, to see how movement “travels” across the bed. This is a major consideration when deciding on the best mattress for couples, and my test helps show how much it will disturb you if a partner (or pet!) moves around in the bed at night.
I assess motion transfer by dropping a 10-pound steel ball onto the mattress from three different heights of four inches, eight inches and 12 inches onto one side of the bed, and using a seismometer to measure how much that movement travels to the other side of the bed.
My test showed that the Saatva Latex Hybrid has high motion transfer, likely because the bed is so bouncy due to its combination of latex and pocketed coils. That means other movements in the bed are likely to disturb you at night, meaning this would not be my first recommendation for couples or restless sleepers. I’d recommend these folks look for a mattress with better motion isolation, like a memory foam mattress.
Sex
The latex build of this mattress offers bounce and responsiveness, which makes the Latex Hybrid a desirable mattress for sex. The level of bounce within the mattress will prevent a feeling of being “stuck” in the mattress and will actually facilitate movements rather than absorbing them.
Cooling
The Saatva Latex Hybrid has cooling under control. Latex is a naturally cooling material, which makes the mattress great at regulating body temperature, and providing a cool sleeping experience. The same coil layer that gives this bed great bounce also allows for air to flow through the mattress, further adding to its overall breathability.
Edge Support
Strong edge support will make a mattress feel larger, since you’ll be able to stretch all the way out to the sides. It also adds to a bed’s durability, as strong edges prevent sagging.
The edge support on the Saatva Latex Hybrid is really strong. I rolled all the way to the edge of the mattress with no problems whatsoever. This means you can use the whole surface area of the mattress, making the bed feel that much bigger.
What is the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress Made Of?
Now that we know how this bed feels, let’s look at what it’s made of. The Saatva Latex Hybrid is a hybrid mattress that contains both latex foam and innerspring coils, and it has three distinct layers.
Cover — This Saatva’s organic cotton cover is quilted with wool. It provides a soft, cushioning feel for plenty of comfort right off the bat.
Comfort Layer — Below the cover is a top layer of breathable Talalay latex. You might sink into this foam layer just a little bit, it also provides a super quick response to pressure and a lot of bounce. Latex is great at dissipating body heat, which provides a cooler sleeping experience than you might get from some memory foams or polyurethane foams — plus, latex is typically a bit more durable, meaning the mattress will last longer. An added perk is that this layer is naturally antimicrobial, which can be a bonus for sleepers who keep a close eye on their health.
Support Layer — Right below the latex comes the core of the bed, which consists of an individually wrapped coil system. This coil layer gives the bed really excellent bounce and support, and works with the Talalay latex layer to promote airflow.
Base Layer — The base layer of the Saatva is an organic eco loft pad made of organic wool and cotton. It gives the pocketed coil support system something to reflect off of.

My Favorite Things About the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress
I really appreciate that the Saatva Latex Hybrid is a firmer hybrid model that offers excellent bounce and mobility. If you like to feel more “on top of” than “in” the bed, the Saatva Latex Hybrid definitely offers that feel. I’d recommend this firm mattress to back sleepers, stomach sleepers, and combination back/stomach sleepers.
I was also impressed with the support I received and the overall solid feel of the mattress. The Saatva Latex Hybrid is well built and uses durable materials to stand the test of time. Along with back and stomach sleepers, I think people in the 250+ pound range will find the supportive feel that can help them get a great night of sleep.
My Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress Complaints
The flip side of all that firm support is that I would not recommend the Saatva Latex Hybrid to side sleepers. If you’re looking for a super plush feel to relieve pressure in problem areas like the shoulders, I would take a look at something a bit softer.
Finally, Saatva has received a few customer complaints about delayed delivery times. Saatva offers free white glove delivery with all their mattresses, but you may need to wait longer than Saatva’s estimated delivery time to receive your new mattress.

Well, all mattresses will sag eventually. But I have to say, Saatva models are built well and use high-quality materials. Plus, latex is usually more durable than some other materials, meaning it won’t break down as quickly! I recommend reassessing a mattress after 5-7 years of use, but the Saatva Latex Hybrid might last you a little longer than that.
Can you flip a Saatva mattress?
You can’t flip the Saatva Latex Hybrid, but the company does offer another model—the Zenhaven mattress—which is flippable. If you are worried about wearing out a non-flippable mattress, I recommend rotating it 180 degrees every six months or so.

To help give you some more information, I wanted to include some info on how the Saatva Latex Hybrid compares to a few other popular Saatva beds.
Saatva Classic vs Saatva Latex Hybrid
- The Saatva Classic looks similar to the Saatva Latex Hybrid, but the materials inside are extremely different! The Classic has a coil-on-coil innerspring build, meaning it combines larger steel coils with individually wrapped coils. This provides great support and a ton of bounce.
- I recommend the Saatva Classic for strict back sleepers and combination back/side sleepers, and think it’s a great choice for those worried about back pain in the morning! In my opinion, the Hybrid is best for back, stomach, or back/stomach combo sleepers.
- The Classic comes in three different firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. All models include a 3 inch euro pillow top, so are a bit softer than the Hybrid.
