Is the DreamCloud Premier Rest a Good Mattress for You?
To start, we put each of our mattresses through something called a “Rest Test,” where we lie down on the bed for an uninterrupted 15-minute power nap. This gives us a big-picture assessment of how it performs before we get into some of our more specific tests. Here’s how my colleague Amelia felt napping on the DreamCloud Premier Rest mattress:
“I absolutely loved the DreamCloud Premier Rest. Lying down on the mattress, I felt instant plushness from the top layer of the bed. However, I didn’t totally sink into the bed and felt lifted up and supported. I switch between sleeping on my side and back, and I felt equally comfortable in both of these positions. I was particularly impressed with how comfortable I felt on my side, because I often feel lots of pressure buildup on my shoulder. Overall, this is a bed I would love to sleep on!”

Who I recommend the DreamCloud Premier Rest mattress for
- Back sleepers should get the optimal amount of comfort and support on this bed — enough pressure relief to keep their lumbar region cushioned, but enough of a lift to keep their spine in a neutral alignment.
- Combination sleepers might like this bed, which is easy to move around and change positions on.
- The Premier Rest is a high-quality luxury mattress that should last 12 to 15 years but also has a lifetime warranty. It has a medium-firm feel that should appeal to a lot of different sleepers, so I’d recommend most folks ready to purchase their next bed read the rest of this review to learn more.
Who I don’t recommend the DreamCloud Premier Rest mattress for
- If you’re looking for a budget or guest room mattress, I think the Premier Rest could be too expensive for your needs. I’d recommend one of our best mattresses under $1,000 instead.
- The Premier Rest does have a strong off-gassing scent. This is nothing to be concerned about (the DreamCloud isn’t made with harmful chemicals or heavy metals), but if airing your new bed out for a few days is a concern, I’d recommend one of our best latex mattresses instead. They often have less of a smell than other bed-in-a-box options. You could also consider a non-box mattress.
- The Premier Rest doesn’t offer tons of body contouring. If that’s what you’re looking for, check out one of our best memory foam mattresses instead.
How Firm is the DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress?
Now that you know the basics, let’s get into how this bed feels. Since firmness is subjective, I polled a few people in the office before determining an average firmness rating for this bed.
We gave the Premier Rest a 6.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. This means it’s a truly medium-firm mattress. This firmness level is popular with a lot of different sleepers.
The Premier Rest’s plush pillow top layer feels initially pressure-relieving, but the sinkage it offers is curbed by a firm supportive coil layer below. This means the bed feels cushioning but is still easy to move around and change positions on. This is good news for combination sleepers who like to cycle through varying positions at night.

Testing the DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress in Different Sleeping Positions
How a mattress feels can vary depending on your body weight and preferred sleep position. So, I like to break down how a bed will perform for folks with different body weights in all my reviews.
Is the Premier Rest a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – This bed is a great fit for these sleepers. They’ll get plenty of pressure relief at the lower back, and plenty of lift and support.
- Light Side Sleepers – These sleepers should really like this bed. Its pillow top layer will do a great job cushioning sensitive joints.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – These sleepers could be comfortable on this mattress, especially if they only spend part of the night on their stomach. I think the Premier Rest is just supportive enough to keep their hips and shoulders aligned.
Is the Premier Rest a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130 to 250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – The Premier Rest is a great fit for these folks. It should offer them the right balance of pressure relief and support.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – I’d also recommend this bed to average weight side sleepers. I think the pillow top layer will do a nice job of relieving pressure around the hips and shoulders.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – The Premier Rest is likely a little too soft for these sleepers. I’d recommend they opt for a firm mattress that will help keep their hips lifted up in line with their shoulders.
Is the Premier Rest a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – This mattress should work well for these sleepers. It’s thick and supportive, so it should feel comfortable. The Rest might feel a little softer to heavier people than other sleepers, but I don’t think it will feel overly soft.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – These sleepers might also like this bed. It should offer a nice amount of cushioning and sinkage, but you shouldn’t sink all the way onto its coil layer, which can be an issue for heavy side sleepers on thinner beds.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – These folks will need a firmer mattress to keep their hips and shoulders properly aligned. I’d recommend one of our best mattresses for heavy people instead.

DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Pain Relief Performance
Pain relief is an important consideration for a lot of sleepers. I like to measure a mattress’s pain relief potential using a pressure map test. I use a special mat to measure the force a body exerts on a mattress in a few different sleeping positions.
The mat using thermal imaging to generate a “pressure map” that highlights areas of low pressure in blue to green and areas of high pressure in yellow to red. The more blue you see on a map, the more pressure-relieving a mattress is!
Back Pain – Based on all the blue on the pressure map in the lower back area, I’d say this mattress could be a good fit for sleepers with back pain, especially if it’s caused by tension around the lower back. However, if you find a firm mattress is better for relieving your pain, I’d recommend the firmer original DreamCloud mattress instead.
Shoulder Pain – Based on these pressure map results, the Premier Rest could be a great fit for sleepers with shoulder pain. Its pillow top layer should really cushion these sensitive joints, preventing soreness or stiffness.
Hip Pain – The Premier Rest also looks like a great option for sleepers with hip pain based on these results. However, I felt a little pressure around my hips when I tested this mattress on my side, so if you have particularly sensitive hips, you may want to look for something softer.
DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Performance for Couples
I think the Premier Rest is just okay for couples, mainly due to how it performed in the areas of motion transfer and edge support. Read on below to learn more.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer is the movement detectable from one side of the bed on the other. Couples normally prefer a mattress with low motion transfer, because you’re less likely to be bothered by a partner’s tossing and turning on a bed that absorbs motion well.
To test motion transfer, I dropped a steel ball onto the mattress and measured the disturbance it caused with a seismometer. Each drop is meant to symbolize a different movement you’re likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (four inches) to getting out of bed (eight inches) all the way to full-on jumping (12 inches).
These are fairly high motion transfer results. If you or your partner are especially light sleepers, there’s a good chance you may feel each other tossing and turning.
Sex
The best mattress for sex is responsive and easy to move around on. While the DreamCloud isn’t super bouncy, it doesn’t feature an extreme amount of sinkage. This means it should be easy to move around and change positions on this bed, making it a good option for sex.
Cooling
Couples often prefer cooling mattresses because they overheat more quickly than solo sleepers. The Premier Rest sleeps fairly cool. Its coil layer encourages breathability, while its pillow top has a cozier feel. And if you want an extra cooling feel, try adding some of our best cooling sheets.
Edge Support
A mattress with strong edges feels a little larger, which is great for couples that like to spread out. To test this, I sit on the side of the bed and move around to feel how much the edge of the mattress is collapsing underneath me. Although the Premier Rest’s edges are reinforced with firmer steel coils, I felt the foams compressing and squishing quite a bit. This indicates that the bed only has average edge support.

DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Unboxing and Off-Gassing
The Premier Rest is a bed-in-a-box, so it needs to be unwrapped and decompressed once it arrives. It can take up to 72 hours for your new mattress to fully expand, so don’t make any final judgments on its feel for a few days after unboxing it.
The DreamCloud Premier Rest does have a fairly strong off-gassing smell, but all this bed’s foams are CertiPUR-US® Certified and free of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), so the scent is nothing to worry about. I really appreciate the truly medium-firm feel of this mattress. It makes it fairly comfortable in most sleeping positions.
I also like that this bed offers pressure relief without sacrificing support. Its quilted pillow top layer is a great value add that I think many sleepers should appreciate. All in all, if you’re looking for durable support and pressure point relief, the Premier Rest is a great pick.
My DreamCloud Premier Rest mattress complaints
If you’re looking for a lot of deep sinkage and body contouring, the Premier Rest might not be the best option for you. I’d recommend one of our best memory foam mattresses instead. And if you’re looking for a budget mattress, the Premier Rest is probably not the best option for you. I do think it’s worth the money, but you may want to check out some cheaper mattresses.
